The act or process
of delivering electric energy from convenient points on the
transmission system (usually a substation) to consumers. The network
of wires and equipment that distributes, transports or delivers
electricity to customers. The delivery of electric energy to
customers on the distribution service. Electric energy is carried at
high voltages along the transmission lines. For consumers needing
lower voltages, it is reduced in voltage at a substation and
delivered over primary distribution lines extending throughout the
area where the electricity is distributed. For users needing even
lower voltages, the voltage is reduced once more by a distribution
transformer or line transformer. At this point, it changes from
primary to secondary distribution.
