A system that enables
supplies to be purchased in large quantities and charged to an asset
account. The supplies are charged to the department when
distributed. (2) The stockpiling of large amounts of supplies usually
in a warehouse for future uses. (3) Large quantities of supplies in
storage. The long-standing District Stores program was eliminated in
1996 with the incorporation of the purchase and distribution of stores
items through the District bookstores as well as several arrangements
with local suppliers.
